A reckless driving incident in a Colorado Springs parking lot left five people with life-threatening injuries after the SUV they were in tipped over while performing donuts. The incident occurred Saturday night at a strip mall located at South Circle and Monterey. A crowd had gathered to watch the SUV circle the lot with passengers hanging out of the windows.
The driver, identified as Marisol Wentling, lost control of the vehicle while attempting a donut maneuver in reverse. The SUV, balancing precariously on its passenger-side tires, rolled over, crushing the individuals who had been hanging outside. Bystanders immediately rushed to aid the injured occupants.
Police responded to the scene after receiving a 911 call around 10:15 p.m. Five individuals were found with life-threatening injuries and transported to a local hospital. As of Monday morning, no updates have been released on their conditions.
Preliminary investigations suggest the crowd had gathered at the strip mall specifically to engage in donut driving. Wentling, who escaped serious injury, was arrested for reckless driving. Although she was initially held in jail, records indicate she has since been released on bond.
The Colorado Springs Police Department is continuing to investigate the incident. Anyone with information is urged to contact CSPD at 719-444-7000. Anonymous tips can be submitted through Crime Stoppers at 719-634-STOP.
